Abstract (EN)

Traffic congestions are considered as a significant problem in urban transportation, and the searchers still looking for feasible mitigation measures, whereby the solutions has been evolved with technology advancement and the better understanding of users behavior from the past experiences. This study looks at operational strategies within the term of Integrated Corridor Management (ICM) to enhance the corridor's capacity under a non-recurring incident conditions. The problems of the other management plans refluxes to many reasons such as the institutional barriers, traditional practices and dealing with each individual system in isolated from other transportation systems. So under this conditions, the management measures often lead to improving a one subsystem performance at the expense of another systems. Therefore a creative approach or solution has to be developed in order to mitigate the impacts of congestion issue. A more efficient approach has been suggested which have the potential to improve corridor-wide mobility, via coordinate the management of all the transportation subsystems in order to manage and operate them collaboratively. ICM approach may encompass different activities, such as integrated and collaborative policy among operators or stakeholders; develop an operations concept for corridor management; communications among the network operators and stakeholders; enhance the network junctions performance; distribution the real-time information(such the alternate paths or networks, travel time. etc); growth management; incident management; congestion management for recurring and nonrecurring congestions. This holistic approach is reported to as integrated corridor management(ICM).The Integrated Corridor Management has taken increasingly more attention recently. Since it seems to be the promising tool to reduced urban traffic congestion. One of the most common approaches in addressing an event or an incident is the strategy of diverting the traffic onto adjacent/parallel routes, this study focused on the impacts of re-optimizing the signalized network under the diverted flow. A macrosimulation tool and the signal timing optimization (Synchro 8 ) has been used in this thesis, this tool specializing in modeling and optimizing the signal timing, besides conducting the intersection capacity-based and HCM-based operations analysis.Using this tool different scenarios has been tested and a comparison has been made via the signal timing models of each case. The results showed that the assumption of a linear relationship between corridor performance and the ICM strategies is justified.
