Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study was to identify the errors freshman students studying at German Language Teaching Department at Anadolu University Faculty of Education during 2016-2017 academic years make in phonetics, vocabulary, semantics and grammar. To identify the errors made in phonetics, students loudly read two different texts related to everyday life and they were recorded. To find the interference errors in vocabulary, semantics and grammar, students were asked to write four different texts related to everyday life. The collected data were analysed using error analysis. Thus, the structures of the mother tongue, first and second foreign language were compared, classified and evaluated. In addition, suggestions were made towards eliminating the errors. According to the data from the analysis, it was found that there were interference errors arising from both Turkish and English, the second foreign language. It was found that the interference errors in phonetics stems from Turkish. Grammar errors were divided into two groups as errors in syntax and morphology and more errors were found to stem from English. In vocabulary and semantics, on the other hand, the errors arising from word-for-word translation and polysemy stemmed from Turkish and errors in mixed languages stemmed from English.
