Abstract (TR)

This thesis investigates the connection between intergenerational mobility (IGM), multidimensional poverty, and socioeconomic inequality in Turkey, a nation characterized by notable geographical differences and economic shifts. This study uses a more comprehensive framework, combining multidimensional poverty and technological development to give a more thorough explanation of mobility dynamics in Turkey. This thesis analyzes the empirical aspect of the relationship between parental income trajectory and children' success in the labor market in Turkey using Bayesian approach. We found that children's income association with their parents is higher when the children are at the mid-career level. The thesis examines how skill-biased technological change (SBTC) affects intergenerational mobility in addition to the influence of family hardship. By giving preference to those with greater human capital—typically from less disadvantaged households—SBTC exacerbates economic inequality, according to the findings. Children from socioeconomically advantaged homes gain disproportionately from this technological transition, which perpetuates existing disparities and restricts mobility for those from low-income families. The results highlight the necessity of governmental measures to tackle the uneven allocation of technical advantages as well as multifaceted poverty. In transitional economies like Turkey, where poverty and technological progress interact to create future socio-economic trajectories, governments may promote more equitable development and increase economic mobility by addressing structural disparities. Through the Alkire-Foster technique, the study creates a Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) utilizing nationally representative data, reflecting deprivation across important dimensions including housing, health, education, and basic living standards. Higher degrees of multidimensional poverty considerably limit upward mobility, according to the empirical findings, which also show a strong negative correlation between home deprivation and children's income. In addition to having less immediate financial opportunities, children from very impoverished homes also suffer long-term obstacles to socioeconomic advancement.
