Yabancı dil olarak Almanca dersinde kültürlerarası öğrenme: Türkiye'de bir üniversitenin yabancı diller yüksekokulunda durum çalışması

In this study, it is aimed to reveal the current situation in line with the opinions of the lecturers in the preparatory classes of the university and their in-class practices within the framework of the intercultural approach. In this context, the situation analysis was performed by using qualitative method. In the fall semester of the academic year 2017/2018, three lecturers teaching German in the Foreign Languages Department of the university were determined as participants. The data were obtained through observation and interview, and semi-structured interview questions were used as data collection tools. The observation of the course lasted for ten weeks and the findings of the study were obtained. In order to support the views of the instructors, the opinions of the students studying in these courses were also consulted. At the beginning and end of the term, two interviews were held with forty-eight students studying at A level. As a result of the study, it was found out that the lecturers did not give enough space to intercultural approach in their courses and had little knowledge about this approach. In this context, the necessity of in-service training for intercultural approach to be applied by faculty members and to be able to take part in foreign language courses has been mentioned. Furthermore, it is recommended that instructors and students make projects related to communication in order to develop intercultural language skills.
