Ethics of news, misinformation and disinformation in the online journalism

In this research it is aimed to survey the effects and coverage of the news ethics, misinformation and disinformation on the online journalism. As well as analysis of the literature, it has benefited from reasoning, reference, deduction and induction techniques in data collection for this purpose. Having emerged through the end of the 20th century, Internet has led a series of significant changes in the mass media. This technology, providing broad opportunites such as simultaneous exchange of information, news and images with the world, has become an important tool for journalism sector. Internet has also made it possible for users to customize their own newscast depending on their individual or institutional preferences. Having the characteristics of both press and broadcast media enabled to reveal internet journalism, a new applicaiton of mass media. Having a different structure and understanding compared to traditional media, online journalism should have a transparent, confirmed, objective and institutional structure and an attentive language and it should ensure that users, receive the information without disinformation. Online journalism which nourishes and shapes with online media, brings along new issues such as unconfirmed information and unfounded news with altered content. The aim of this study is to focus on ethical issues faced in online journalism, the concepts of misinformation and disinformation and the methods used in them. Another aim of this study is to emphasize on the examples of misinformation and disinformation in news and their effect on digital journalism. One of the difficulties faced in literature search was that the studies on definition and context of misinformation and disinformation concept were limited in their number.
