Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, an internet based monitoring system has been developed for determining power quality in the electrical energy systems. The hardware and software designs of the power quality monitoring system have been performed for this thesis. A new power quality monitoring device is presented in the study for monitoring the power quality continuously and compliance with the standards. Designed monitoring device is performed the power quality parameter calculations with the real time current and voltage signals that obtained from the network. FPGA technology, which has become widely used in signal processing recently, has been used in structure of the monitoring device. By means of the power quality monitoring device, monitoring the power quality parameters and detecting type of the power quality disturbances have been made. Software designs of the power quality monitoring system are generally prepared in two parts. The first of these parts are FPGA-based operating softwares. Software running on the FPGA side consist of signal processing algorithms that prepared for the measurement process, and data communications parts. FPGA-based softwares have been created with using VHDL hardware description language. The second part is the computer side softwares that are used for recording, monitoring, analysis and reporting of the data obtained from monitoring device. The softwares that runs on the server are provide great facilities to users for monitoring visually and querying the power quality data. A web-based application has been created for monitoring power quality data over internet remotely. By means of the web application, users can monitor their own power flows with a computer or a mobile platform connected to the internet. Three different measurement points have been selected for the testing of the power quality monitoring device. These are the Engineering Faculty, Vocational School and Laboratories at Tunceli University campus. The monitoring system has been installed electrical distribution panels at these points. The power quality monitoring system prepared under the thesis provides all the features expected from a new generation of power quality monitoring system. Using FPGA technology in these systems has been provided an innovative contribution to this field.
