Meaining of suicide, suicide and attitudes toward suicide

The goals of this study are to investigate the meaning of suicide, death, life; the differences of the meanings and attitudes towards suicide and suicidal person between individulas who have suicidal beahvior and who don't have it and between high school and university students; the relationship between the meaning of suicide and attitudes towards suicide and suicidal person. In the line of these goals; a total of 378 university students from Aydın city who are studying in different departments of Adnan Menderes University and 387 high school students from Aydın-Nazilli have participatied in this study. Participants were applied Suicidal Behavior Questions and Eskin's Suicide and Attitudes Toward Suicidal Person Scale, Eskin's Form of Meaning of Suicide, Death and Life, Revised-Suicidal Behavious Querionnaire and general information form which includes demographic features. As a result of the analysis; differences of mental representations concerning the meanings of suicide, death and life have been found between the individuals who have suicidal beahviour and who don't have it and between the individuals who are highschool and university students. At the same time it is also observed that the attitudes towards suicide and suicidal person are different between the individulas who have suicidal behaviour and who don't have it and between the individuals who are high school and university students. On the other hand, the meanings of suicide have been found correlated with attitudes towards suicide and suicidal person. Lastly, attitudes toward suicide and the meaning of suicide, death and life have been correlated with individual's evaluation of committing suicide in the future.
