Regional Kurdish Government in north of Iraq (1992 - 2008)

In this thesis, Regional Kurdish Government which becomes an important component of Middle East is taken up. In this context, before all else politicization activities of Iraqi Kurds are studied. After that, the struggle which in leadership of Mullah Mustafa Barzani is taken up. The term from after the death of Mullah Mustafa Barzani in 1979 to Gulf War is studied in frame of Iran-Iraq War. The occupation of Kuveyt by Iraq in August 1990 presented very great opportunities for Iraqi Kurds. In north of Iraq a safe haven is formed for protect from Saddam Husseyin Iraqi Kurds who revolted after removing Iraq from Kuveyt. Kurds constituted a de facto government in 1992. After the establishment of this government which is the foundation of recent condition government declared Kurdish Federate State in 1992 October. Declaration of federate state took a formality after occupation of Iraq by USA in 2003. For government, although having a formality ,like status of Kirkuk and petroleum fields topics contuined to be problem. Especially this two topics are detailed within thesis. In addition to these topics USA, Syria and Iran?s point of views to government is taken up. Relations between government and Turkey who is anxious like the other region countries from an independent Kurdish state are studied by past and future dimensions.All stages of Regional Kurdish Government are taken up and studied within a chronological frame with explanation and interpretation methods. After the studying, these results are reached; Kurds who formed the administrative structure?s of Regional Kurdish Government are originated from a delayed and suppressed nationalism movement, they continued to struggle with foreign support in frame of this movement, government is crowned this struggle after occupation of Iraq but have not get a stability entirely yet, especially Turkey?s policy will have a grand effect over government and Turkey must have an attitude which takes into consideration Turkey?s jeopolitic location, historic-politic-economic-military and cultural accumulation towards Regional Kurdish GovernmentKey Words1.Kurd2.KDP3.PUK4.Iraq5.Turkey
