The effect of cooperative learning approach on the primary school 8th grade students' attitudes to the course in Turkish class and basic language skills

This research was carried out to examine the effects of cooperative learning method in primary education 8th grade Turkish class on students? attitudes to the course and basic language skills.The research was carried out in two separate 8th grade classes which are studying in Ayyıldız primary school in Pursaklar in Ankara. In the research in which pretest-posttest experimental study of the pattern with control group was used, in one of the class impartially selected the cooperative learning method based on the constructivist approach; in the other class, the traditional teaching method (lecture-question-answer) was performed.Turkish course achievement test and attitude scale Turkish course oriented developed by the researcher to obtain data were applied to experimental and control groups as pretest and posttest. A data analysis program called SPSS for Windows 15.0 was used at the data analysis.According to the findings obtained from the research, it was seen that the experimental group to which cooperative learning method based on the constructivist approach was applied showed a significant improvement in terms of academic achievement as to the control group with traditional teaching of courses. It has been confirmed that the experimental group?s attitudes to Turkish course showed a more positive development compared to the control group.Keywords: Cooperative learning, Turkish teaching, basic language skills, attitude.
