Investigation of the effect of body language at interview: the case of Azerbaijan

Abstract (EN)

In today's competitive world, the impact of the development of technology and globalization forces businesses to compete with each other and get ahead in this race so that can survive. The success of business is considered by achieving its goals and the failure of the business depends on its human resources. At the end of the historical process human resources management is viewed as a source of human value and giving importance to the company's human resources where at the recruitment process in the business has been meticulous. Businesses are mostly in the recruitment process increasingly emphasize the success of the recruitment process in order to select candidates in accordance with their knowledge and abilities, apply appropriate test and interview methods to candidates, place them in the appropriate positions and adaptation processes, and ultimately value recruitment of staffed personnel and value to the business. Sometimes there are cases where the level of knowledge and ability of hired candidates are determined to be inadequate for the required position, although there are several tests/examinations and interviewing practices to determine the level of knowledge and ability of the candidates at the stages of the recruitment process. It is also important to pay attention to their non-verbal communication, body language components, as well as test and interview methods, in order to determine the candidate's knowledge and skills for proper and effective recruitment activities and recruitment of eligible candidates. Examination of non-verbal communication – body language reveals the personal characteristics of the candidate in the recruitment process, what he or she did not say correctly, and etc. can be determined. In the first part of the study, HRM and recruitment were discussed. Following the overview of the HRM concept, historical process, and functions, the recruitment function has been discussed and the recruitment processes have been studied extensively. In the second part, information about body language is given. Firstly, the concept, features and importance of nonverbal communication - body language are mentioned and gestures and facial expressions, posture and other body language elements were examined and information about the signs of the lie displayed by body language at the time of the interview was shared. In the research part of the study, the human resources authorities in the recruitment processes of the companies operating in agriculture, industry and services sectors in Azerbaijan were included and the effect of body language of the candidates on job interviews was examined. 150 human resources officers in the recruitment process participated in the research survey method and the research results were evaluated through SPSS 23 (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) program. On the determination of the effect of body language on recruitment decision, 3 main hypothesis and their associated sub-hypotheses have been tested and the test results of the hypotheses have been interpreted in the result part of the research.
