Abstract (EN)

The literature review conducted within the scope of this study shows the inadequacy of empirical studies that deal with the effects of OHS prevention costs at company level. This study aims to fill this gap in the literature. More specifically, the study investigates the relationships, if any, between OHS prevention costs, OHSMS practices, employee satisfaction, OHS performance, and accident costs. To this end, data were collected from 159 companies with OHSMS 18001 certification that operate in Turkey. The collected data were analyzed through exploratory factor analysis and structural equation modeling. The findings indicate that OHS prevention costs have a significantly positive effect on reduced accident costs, safety performance and employee satisfaction; safety performance have a significantly positive effect on employee satisfaction and reduced accident costs; and employee satisfaction has a significantly positive effect on reduced accident costs. The research findings may encourage those managers or executives who are reluctant about investing in OHS costs to spend on these costs.
