Abstract (EN)
This study examines the prevalence of occupational diseases in the coal and lignite mining, as well as the construction sectors in Turkey, and their impact on occupational health. The research aims to identify the health risks faced by workers in these sectors and to evaluate the effectiveness of the existing occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations in mitigating these risks. The study involved a literature review, an analysis of the current regulations, and a comparison of practices in Turkey with those in Europe. The findings indicate that the prevalence of occupational diseases in Turkey is primarily due to the inadequate enforcement of regulations and the lack of sufficient inspections. In contrast, strict enforcement and advanced occupational health policies in Europe have significantly reduced the incidence of occupational diseases. In this context, it is recommended that Turkey enhance the implementation of OHS policies, strengthen inspections, and expand occupational health education.
