Examination of the relationship between job satisfaction and organizational commitment: An application in health sector

Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is analysing the relationship between job satisfaction and organizational commitment in health sector. The study includes five parts. In the first part of the study, there is an entrance section. Second part examine the definition of job satisfaction, the importance of job satisfaction, relations of job satisfaction about similar conceptions, the factors that affect job satisfaction and finally the results of job satisfaction. Third part of the study, examines the definition of organizational commitment the importance of organizational commitment and added the individual,organizational factors which effect organizational commitment and the results of organizational commitment. After theoretical infrastructure is explicated, in fourth part, a research is made about the subject. The relationship between job satisfaction and organisational commitment is studied. For the purpose of the examination, an application was conducted in a public hospital, oral and dental health center and in a private hospital, operating in health sector. The sampling group consists of 257 hospital employees. To estimate the job satisfaction of employees; 2 dimensional Minnesota Job Satisfaction Scale is used which is most widely used in literature. To estimate organizational commitment Allen and Meyer?s "Three-Component Model of Organizational Commitment" is used. Survey results are analyzed on a computer using SPSS 11.5 statistical procedures software. We used Cronbach?s Alpha to determine the credibility of questions; frequency and percentage definition statistics to determine demographic characteristics of employees who took the survey, arithmetic mean and standard deviation statistics to determine the levels of employees job satisfaction and organizational commitment; Pearson correlation, T test, Anova, Tukey and Scheffe tests to determine the relationships between employees job satisfaction and organizational commitment and demographic characteristics. The results showed that there is a positive relationship between job satisfaction and organizational commitment in health sector who work in hospitals. It is concluded that as the job satisfaction of employees of job satisfaction increases, so does their organizational commitment. Finally comments are made according to the result of analyses and mentioned to the causes that affect the connection and suggestions are made.
