Abstract (EN)
The essay titled ?Two Concepts of Liberty? written by one of the leading liberal thinkers of the twentieth century Isaiah Berlin in 1959, and the distinction put forward in his essay on "negative liberty - positive liberty" is the subject of academic discussions of our research. Within the scope of the research, Berlin's criticism directed at the western enlightenment tradition and monist thought is examined as well as the German Romantic thought which Berlin titled ?counter ? enlightenment? claiming that this tradition is an obvious reaction to the enligthenment movement. In his context Berlin?s value ? pluralism and its links to his conceptualization of freedom were also examined. The research continues with the analysis of the contributions made to Berlin?s conceptualization by leading liberal thinkers such as Gerald MacCallum, John Gray and Charles Taylor, and ends with the conclusion chapter where the meaning of what Berlin's definition of freedom offers for today is discussed.
