Investigation of bacterial agents and enterotoxins in the etiology of diarrhea

Abstract (EN)

Bacterial gastroenteritis are clinical tables frequently encountered especially in childhood age group that exist by enterotoxins belongs to lots of agents Salmonella, Campylobacter, toxigenic E.coli strains are the most frequently encountered bacterial pathogens. This study was conducted to research the pathogenes that may cause diarrhea and toxigenic E.coli isolates which are not researched prevalently with routin tests. The study was carried out with gaita samples sent to the laboratory with the aim of culture from Gaziantep University Medical Faculty Hospital, Gaziantep Cengiz Gökçek Gynecology and Child Diseases Hospital between November 2017-2018. Gaita samples subcultered to 5% sheep blood agar, EMB agar, XLD agar and Campylobacter agar as distinctive after treatment in selective selenite F agar. The identification of the bacteria considered as pathogens were made by conventional methods and Maldi-Tof MS (Becton Dickinson, USA). ETEC-LT (MKL Diagnostics, Switzerland) was investigated with agglutination test in samples that E.coli detected. EHEC (E. coli O157:H7 serotype (BD, USA)) was investigated with agglutination tests in E.coli isolated determined in hemorrhagic gaita samples. During the study period gaita samples belongs to 240 patients were examined. The age of the patients was 3 months-92 year; 69 (28.75%) of these adult (≥16 age), 171 (71.25%) were child. 98 (40.8%) of the patients were female, 142 (59.2%) were male. While ETEC was detected in 30 (12.5%) of the patients, Salmonella spp. was detected in 14 (5.8%) patients. Salmonella and ETEC isolation found respectively in adult patients as 8 (11.6%) and 6 (8.7%); 6 (3.5%) and 24 (14%) in child patients. E. coli O157:H7 serotype was investigated in 17 (7.1%) hemorrhagic gaita samples. EHEC and Campylobacter spp isolates were not detected in any of the samples. Bacterial pathogen was not detected in 55 (79.7%) of the adults and in 141 (82.5) of the children. Gastroenteritis are clinic tables especially encountered in childhood age group. However the culture is important in detection of bacteriologic agents, we think that the identification of toxigenic E.coli forms will be useful.
