SDH (Subtitling for the D/deaf and Hard-of-hearing) translation forhard-of-hearing people and identifying the education need within the scope of the associate and undergraduate programs

Thanks to today's technological possibilities and infrastructures, we experience that cultural exchange accelerates even more than in the past. One of the important actors of this cultural exchange is the audio-visual texts, which include content such as movies or TV series that can contain many factors belonging to a culture. As a matter of fact, since there are many types of audio-visual texts such as movies or TV series, they can appeal to many audiences. However, individuals with hearing impairment's watching audio-visual texts such as movies or TV series may encounter situations where they may experience some difficulties in understanding the content compared to individuals without hearing impairment. In this context, the importance of SDH Translation will be tried to be revealed for individuals with hearing impairment who may experience difficulties while watching audio-visual content such as movies or TV series. Within the scope of this study, a survey will be conducted in order to reveal the importance of SDH Translation, in the face of problems they may experience in making sense of audio-visual connections while watching any audio-visual text such as a movie or TV series. Specific questions will be asked in this context, by presenting specific sections from content such as movies or TV series, enabling them to compare the standard subtitling translation format with the SDH Translation format. In addition, the course contents of the departments that provide translation education within the scope of associate and undergraduate programs of universities will be examined and whether there is a course or courses that will directly or contribute to this application will be examined. Some suggestions will be tried to be made with the obtained survey results.
