Examining the process of the instruction of building construction course applied to hearing impaired youths: An action research

The curricula prepared for individuals with hearing loss must be suitable for the levels and needs for the individuals with hearing loss for vocational training. The purpose of this study was to examine how an instructor of "Architectural Drafting" program teaches professional knowledge and terminology to the individuals with hearing loss in cases where it is partially or not incorporating Construction Building I-II, Writing and Speaking Skills for Architectural Drafting I-II and Mathematics I-II classes on the theoretical basis of balanced instructional approach. The study designed as an action research and consists of three phases as "Preparation", "Implementation", and "Monitoring". Participants were the students attending Construction Building I-II classes in the school years 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 in Architectural Drafting Program of SfH, instructors and Trustworthiness Committee members. All data gathered via observations, researcher journals, documents, products, checklists and meetings were analyzed descriptively and/or inductively. The results have showed that the improvements in the elements of the curriculum has given positive results in learning-teaching process, and the instructor has made progress in both conducting research methodology and preparing lesson plans and materials and implementing the lesson plans that are suited to age, linguistic level, learning styles of the students and the content in learning-teaching process. At the same time, it is thought that the results would contribute the education of construction building and literature for the students with hearing loss.
