An investigation about the levels of self respect of deaf handicapped national athletes and deaf handicapped who are not involved in sports

This research aims to determine and find the significance level of thedifference of self respect of handicaped national team level athletes and peoplewho are not involved in sports activities. The relationship of self respects ofhandicaped national team level athletes and people who are not involved in sportsactivities were examined. We looked into the diferences of self respect betweenathletes who compete in deaf handicaped national Judo team, which is a martialart sports branch, and people who are not involved in sports activities. We lookedinto the self respect relationship between sportsmen who compete in deafhandicaped national voleyball team and people who are not involved in sportsactivities.A portion of athletes from deaf Olympics team held in Taiwan(DEAFOLIMPIC) participated in the research. The sample of this study consistsof 53 voluntary participating people in which 23 of them are experiment (nationalathlete) and 30 are sedentary (non athlete deaf). Coopersmith self respect scale isemployed. A personal information form that was prepared by the researcher wasuse to determine the demografic properties. SPSS 11.5 statistical pacage programwas used to conduct `Mann Whitney U Test? analyses with the data. Astatistically significant difference was found in this study.In this study the self respect of deaf handicaped athletes is found to behigher than the deaf handicaped people who are not involveld in sports activities.It is seen that sports affects personal charecter of deaf handicaped people.Keywords: Deaf handicaped, self respect, sports
