Abstract (EN)

SUMMARYOtoacoustic emissions (OAEs) can be determined as a noninvasive, objective of thecochlear function. The presence of OAEs show that the hairy cells are functional and thehearing threshold is beter than 30-40 dB, but can not it detect the hearing threshold level. The function of hearing nerve and brainstem hearing pathways is measured by Auditorybrainstem responses (ABR). ABR is especially used to examine the status of hearingpathways in the babies and to diagnose the brainstem lesions. In this study, our aim is to showthe auditory neuropathy frequency and to detect the site of the pathology by OAEs and ABRand to find the etiology in the students of an school for deaf. We can?t find any etiologicalfactor about the hearing loss in the 31 ( 41,3 %) of the students in the study group. Febrilconvulsion, hereditary factors and meningitis were found to be the most often etiologicalfactors. The pathology was cochlear in the cases that had hereditary factors, febril convulsion, meningitis, hiperbilirubinemia and cerebral palsy/anoxy as the etiological factor. In threecases (4%), high degree hearing loss was detected in ABR while TEOAEs responses weretaken and the these cases were reported auditory neuropathy.1
