Developing an information program based on the needs of parents whose child with hearing loss attends in inclusive education

The main purpose of the research is to develop an information program based on the needs of parents whose children attend in inclusive education. This aim includes the stages of determining the information needs of the parents regarding the process, developing and evaluating the program. The research was conducted with mixed method research and its sub-pattern is multi-stage evaluation. The research was carried out in two stages. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 8 teachers and 16 parents at the stage of needs analysis, which is the first stage, and a questionnaire was applied to 350 parents and a total of 374 participants took part. The participants of the developing and evaluation of the program design, which is the second stage, consists of 14 parents who are integrating/including the child with hearing loss. There were 388 participants in total. Qualitative data of the research were made using content analysis, and quantitative data (KESGEB-İK, participant information form, module evaluation, EMA) were made using descriptive analysis method. The analysis of achievement test (pretest-posttest) data was completed using Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Six themes emerged regarding the information needs of parents including primarily legal regulations and practices that will increase their interaction with their children. In line with these themes, the developed program was evaluated as effective. Finally, in terms of the development of inclusion in Turkey, the importance of providing the conditions that will make the education of the children of parents with hearing loss more effective in their children was emphasized.
