An investigation of the opinions of parents of the children with hearing loss about the games they carried out with their children

The main purpose of this study is to examine the views of parents of children with hearing loss about the plays they carried out with their children. The participants of the study, designed as a descriptive case study, are 3 parents of children with hearing loss. The data of the study were collected through semi-structured interviews, researcher's journal and document analysis. The collected data were analyzed through descriptive analysis. The play activities carried out by the parents with their children with hearing loss were examined under the following headings. The games that the parents play with their children, the reasons for playing the games, the designated time span and places of the plays, the people with whom the child played, the ways the parents play with their children, the parents' expectations and suggestions. The results showed that the parents played games mostly supporting cognitive and linguistic development of their children. The main purpose of the parents playing games with their children was to improve their children's language skills. The initial play partners of the children were their parents, then their play partners expanded. While playing games with their children, the parents applied both behavioral and game-oriented strategies. It was determined that the parents had various expectations from their children, relatives, teachers, and their children's peers. Parents advised other parents of children with hearing loss to continue carrying out the play activities with their children.
