Retrospective investigation of the relationship between skeletal nose profile morphology and malocclusion on lateral cephalometric film

Abstract (EN)

Aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between the skeletal sagittal profile morphology of the nose and sagittal skeletal malocclusions. Materials and methods: The study was conducted in a total of 135 individuals (mean age 17,88 ± 3,49 males (mean age 17,91 ± 1,16) and 86 females (mean age 17,78 ± 1,91) in the post-pubertal period who did not receive orthodontic treatment. 14) includes measurements made on lateral cephalometric films. In the study, in which the groups were formed as male and female, individuals were divided into 3 groups as skeletal Class 1, Class 2 and Class 3 according to Steiner's ANB angle, regardless of gender. In addition, each skeletal group was compared by dividing it into 2 groups as male and female within the group. A total of 5 parameters, 4 linear and 1 angular, were measured on each cephalometric film. The arithmetic mean and standard deviation of each measurement were calculated. For statistical analysis, independent sample t-test (student t-test) and one-way analysis of variance (One Way Anova) were used for normally distributed data, and Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis tests were used for data that did not show normal distribution. Results: While linear nasal parameters of R-A (Rhinion - A point), N-A (Nasion - A point), N ANS (Nasion - Anterior nasal spina) differ significantly between gender groups regardless of skeletal groups (p≤0,05), N-R (Nasion-A point) Rhinion) linear nose parameter showed significant difference only between skeletal malocclusion groups regardless of gender (p≤0,05). There was no statistically significant difference in nasal bone concavity angle in all groups (p>0,05). Conclusions: According to the results of our study, it was observed that men had longer measurements than women in all linear nasal parameters. Longer measurements were observed in all linear nasal parameters in skeletal Class 3 individuals than in skeletal Class 1 and 2 individuals. It was observed that the nasal bone angle was greater in skeletal Class 2 individuals.
