The evaluation of the treatment and the long term effects of the reverse headgear therapy in skeletal class iii patients

Özet (EN)

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of the reverse headgear therapy and the results of the long-term follow-up when almost growth potential was completed or ceased in Class III patients and to compare the long-term results of the patients who underwent any application with nonextraction fixed appliances after the reverse headgear therapy.The research material were composed of 34 patients who had Skeletal Class III malocclusion due to maxillary retrusion or a combination of maxillar retrusion and mandibular protrusion and whose growth potential were close to cease or ceased at the end of long-term follow up.Those 34 people were divided into two groups;17 people(group1) about whom any kind of applications weren?t made after reverse headgear treatment, 17 people(group2) about whom fixed orthodontic therapy without extraction made after the reverse headgear treatment. Lateral cephalograms and hand-wrist radiographies were taken at the start of the treatment, end of treatment and long-term follow-up.At the end of reverse headgear therapy, it was found out that maxillary forward displacement and at the end of long-term also follow-up forward displacement but with a less amount were observed.In the treatment period, mandible showed posterior rotation;in the follow-up period anterior rotation of the mandible were observed.As the significant increase at the angles of the SN/GoGn and Y-axis during the treatment shows a significant decrease during the follow-up period, patients were observed to return their original growth patterns.It was found out that no difference between the groups in the long-term follow-up regarding stability.
