Abstract (EN)
Objective: The aim of this retrospectively designed study is to investigate the variables that can provide predictions about sagittal improvement that may occur as a result of functional treatment in patients with skeletal class II malocclusion. Material and Method: As a result of the measurement performed on pre and posttreatment lateral cephalograms whose taken from patients who had been received removable functional appliance therapy, two groups were formed to be successful and unsuccessful according to the change in the ANB angle. 14 patients with a decrease of 3º or more in the relevant angle were included in the successful group, and 14 patients with a decrease of 1º or less were included in the unsuccessful group. On the pretreatment lateral cephalograms and dental models whose taken from patients in the groups, 76 variables were measured and evaluated with significance tests. Correct classification percentages were calculated for each of the variables that differed statistically significant between the two groups. Results: In the significance tests, value of 15 cephalometric variables showed statistically significant difference between the two groups (p <0.05). Correct classification percentages of related variables vary between 82% and 57%. Conclusion: Variables that could provide predictions about success in the functional treatment show that patients with skeletal class II malocclusion who had horizontal growth pattern, prominent chin and retrusive/retrocline lower incisors have a higher chance of success.
