Examining the effect of workaholicism on loneliness and productivity: Practise in academics

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research is to examine the effects of workaholism on the loneliness and productivity levels of academicians in work life. In addition, it aims to reveal whether these variables differ according to demographic variables. The sample of the research consists of 240 female and 153 male academicians working in public and private universities. In the research, a questionnaire study was conducted using the Duwas Workaholism Scale, the Loneliness at Work Scale, the Endicott Work Productivity Scale and questions about demographic variables. The data obtained in the study were analyzed using the SPSS 24.0 program and the Lisrel 8.7 program. As a result of the analyzes made, it was determined that the workaholism levels of academicians had a positive effect (β= 0.30; t= 5.44; p<0.01) on the loneliness levels in business life has been found to bring. It was determined that the workaholism levels of the academicians had a positive effect (β= 0.20; t= 3.61; p<0.01) on the productivity levels at work, and it was determined that a one-unit increase in the workaholism levels of the academicians would cause an increase of 0.20 in the productivity levels at work.
