Mystical dimension of Islamic morality

Morality occupies an important place in Islamic thought and contains values and rules that guide our behaviour and daily life. Ethical topics and concepts containing theoretical and practical dimensions are considerably developed in fields such as philosophy, kalam and Sufism. Islamic philosophers and Sufis have contributed greatly to making ethics a systematic discipline that is included in Farabi's classification of sciences. In our thesis, we try to describe approaches to ethical thinking from the philosophical and Sufi points of view. With this understanding, the concepts of 'morality' and 'ethics', morality in the Qur'an and the Sunnah, the form of morality in the Sharia are reviewed in the introductory chapter and an attempt is made to establish a framework. In the first chapter it is discussed whether Islamic moral thought has a systematic structure or not. Topics such as mysticism, mystical experience, mystical elements in morality, the transition to the mystical dimension and mystical methods in the system of morality are reviewed. In the second chapter, the following topics are discussed: the moral structure of human beings, the human being as a perpetrator, whether an act can be qualified as ethical or not. The third chapter of our thesis reviews perfection, which is one of the fundamental objectives of Islamic morality, and the mystical elements indicating the path to perfection. The degree of perfection, the ethical role of divine love, becoming like God in the ethical sense, the ethical dimension of talent, the perception of good and evil, the realization of absolute good, union with the active mind and the realization of absolute good and the goals included in morality in the most general sense are explained. The epistemological dimension of Islamic thought of morality and the concepts of "müşahede" and "marifet" are discussed in the fourth chapter. The last chapter deals with the deviation from ethical goals and the replacement of goals by means and emphasises that a utilitarian approach can replace mystical elements.
