Islamic law is a branch of science that determines and interprets religious provisions regarding the implementation of Shari's orders. While making these determinations by Islamic jurists, a number of methods and principles have been developed.In situations where people face difficulties and hardships in their daily lives, solutions are generated by utilizing the means indicated in the scriptural sources.One of these solution methods isthe principle of umūm al-balwā. In Islamic legal literature, this concept is defined as the hardships and difficulties that individuals experience and that have become widespread in society.Therefore, umūm al-balwā has become a principle frequently used by Islamic jurists as a mitigating factor in furû' (substantive fiqh) provisions. In this study, the nature, legitimacy, conditions, and reasons of umūm al-balwā, which is accepted as a method in the mitigation of religious provisions, are evaluated by providing examples offurû' fiqh issues that it facilitates.
