Islamic law's approach to castration

This study deals with the issue of castration (sterilization) in Islam within the framework of the Quran, Hadiths and the views of Islamic jurists. In line with the importance Islam attaches to creation and bodily integrity, the castration process has been examined in the light of human rights and ethical principles. Although there is no direct provision regarding castration in the Holy Quran, the principles of intervention in creation and preservation of bodily integrity support the prohibition of castration. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) clearly prohibited castration in his hadiths and recommended fasting to control sexual desires. Islamic jurists generally regard human castration as haram, as they consider it an intervention in creation and a violation of personal rights. Although there is no direct provision in the Quran about the castration of animals, the Sunnah of our Prophet and the hadiths advise us to treat animals well and not to cause them unnecessary pain. Among Islamic jurists, it is considered acceptable to castrate animals for the benefit of humans, but it is emphasized that this process should not cause unnecessary suffering to animals. Islam attaches great importance to the principles of human rights and physical integrity. The prohibition of castration because it damages human dignity and disrupts physical integrity is based on the principles of respect for creation and protection of human rights. Castration of animals is seen as acceptable in order to improve their quality of life, but it is stated that this process should be done in an ethical and humane way. In Islam, castration is handled in line with the principles of human dignity, bodily integrity and respect for creation. While human castration is prohibited, animal castration is considered acceptable under certain conditions. This study evaluates the issue of castration in the light of the general ethical and moral principles of Islam and emphasizes that these procedures should be handled carefully.
