Comparison of financial performance of İslamic banks based on Middle East countries and Turkey

The purpose of this thesis is measure and compare the financial performance of six countries - Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Turkey and Bahrain - that have grown rapidly among the countries of the Middle East and played an important role in the globalization of the islamic banking sector. Using the annual financial data between the first quarter of 2010 and the last quarter of 2014, the profitability determinants of 36 participation banks were analyzed by panel data analysis. Different internal and external variables that influence the profitability of participation banks in the study were selected. According to results, the cost income ratio variable negatively and significantly affects on dependent variables ROA and ROE. It has been found that the Equity/ Total Assets and Total Assets variables affect on dependent variables, ROA and ROE, positively and significantly. According to the estimation results, there is no statistically significant effect of external variables on dependent profitability and return on equity.
