Ceramics as a contemporary material in the art of embroidery

The concepts of 'art' and 'crafts' whose paths have sometimes crossed or determined by certain boundaries throughout the history, have become intermingled in 21st century by getting 'creativity' as the main element of art and 'numerous techniques' as a part of crafts together in various ways. Today creativity has no limits in terms of materials, language and technique and each material, each language and each technique can be the subject of creativity. 'Embroidery' which is accepted as a craft, has abandoned the traditional through various factors since 19th century and started to find a place among contemporary arts, and become a technique used in contemporary art by improving the possibilities of material and technique via artistic expression in advancing period. This study examines the development of art of embroidery, which is a technique that has developed in houses in silence and accepted as feminine; analyzes the use of embroidery techniques in contemporary art, and especially discusses the use of ceramics material in art of embroidery.
