Ismail Cem's Politika Newspaper (1795-77)

Politika (1975-77), the editorship of which has been done by Ismail Cem, aimed to improve the social democracy in Turkey. Politika has been published around 1970s when political and economic shifts were prominent. Social chaos and political instability brought by March 12 1971 coup d?état, has undermined democratic rights and freedom. In this period, Politika has emerged and claimed to contribute to the democratic rights. Known also as "Ismail Cem's Newspaper", Politika has played an important role in Turkey's publication history, considering both its editorial perspective and the historical background presented. In this thesis, Politika has been analyzed both in accordance with Ismail Cem's views on democracy and the influence of 1970s historical circumstances.
