A review on educational problems in the literary works by Ismail Gaspirinski

The thesis, named Education Problems in Ismail Gaspıralı's Literary Works, tries to display Ismail Gaspıralı's (1851-1914) opinion on education by focusing the education problems in his novels and stories. The aim is to determine the education system and problems of Russian Muslims, to display the education system in Europe and the author's point of view about the issue. Education issue is the main subject that Ismail Bey, who was looking forward to a modern look for Turkish-Islam world, insisted on. Ismail Gaspıralı, who was recognized with his service to Turkish world after ages, made facilities to enlighten and educate people in addition to his activities he has also literary works in novel and story type. When these novels and stories are examined, Muslim-Turkish society's education problem issue is the most conspicuous subject. At the age of Gaspıralı Turkish and Islam world - except Ottoman Empire- was in illiteracy and backwardness. The illiteracy and backwardness is the main reason for them to be under the control of other countries and nations. As an intellectual who sees the issue, Gaspıralı, has written literary, periodical works and brought up some suggestions to make some innovation about education and he used press and travelled to disseminate the opinion. When the author's works are examined it can be seen that he brings up his opinions by the help of his characters - especially children and women education. In his novels and stories he focused on the European people's education status and point of view to education, characterized educated human profile, ideal society and women understanding and the idealized people's and society's education features. On the other hand it can be seen that the importance of the education has a great place in his essays. Like Ismail Bey's essays, his novels and stories are the parts of his opinion which he wanted to apply and disseminate. Gaspıralı, who wanted to create an educated and modern society with his whole facilities, also made an effort to serve his aim with his literary works.
