İsmail Hakkı Bursevi's Kitābu Muzīlī'l-ahzān and its analysis

İsmail Hakkı Bursevī, who lived in the 19th century, was a mystic, commentator and poet. Most of the works of Bursevī, who is the sheikh of the Calvatī order, have a religious and sufi character. In addition to his works in different fields such as Dīvān (literature), Rūh al-bayān fî Tafsīr al-Qur'an (tafsīr), Nuhbat al-Fikar (hadith), he also has many sufistic works, vâridâts and sharhs (commentaries). His work named Kitābu Muzīl al-ahzān, which is the subject of our thesis, is one of his works written in the genre of vâridât. Kitābu Muzīl al-ahzān is a vâridâtnāme written in 1722 in a mixed verse and prose form. Bursevī named his work "Kitābu Muzīl al-ahzān" because he thought that the road to divine love relieved the sorrows, and conveyed the inspirations born to his heart on this path. Although the work is in Turkish, the verse, hadith and some phrases are written in Arabic. Since Kitābu Muzīl al-ahzān is a sufistic work, the work mainly focuses on religious and sufi concepts. In addition, there are criticisms of various groups and advice on the manners of the sufi way. There are 73 poems written by Bursevī in the work. Although these poems are mostly written in ghazal form, there are some that are written in kıt'a, dubeyt, mufret and song forms. All of the poems in the work have a religious and sufi content. In this thesis, İsmail Hakkı Bursevī's Kitābu Muzīl al-ahzān was analysed in terms of form and content along with transcribed text into Roman alphabet. Keywords: Religious-Sufī Literature, 18th c.
