Sharhu Akhlâq-ı Adudiyya of İsmail Müfid b. Ali el- İstanbulî

İsmail Müfit Efendi?s work which is named Şerhu Ahlak-ı Adudiyye ( Sharhu Akhlâk-ı Adudiyya), is a commentary to the Adudiddin İci?s compendious morality tractate, detecting its contributions to the Muslım morality idea and to introduce this work is the aim of our thesis. There are countless books of commentary on many science ranges which are on the shelves and tend to be forgotten.One aim of our work is bringing light to the İsmail Efendi?s commentary and thus filling up this gap.To understand this book which is written on philosophical moral field and to place subject on its original basics, we struggled to explain characteristics of İslamic theology, mystical, philosophical theories. We studied to introduce moral works and chief philosophers in the classic period, briefly to make understand its historical permanence. We studied to enligten factors which effected morality in the period of author and to the general morality of understanding of Otoman.Additionally.to determine this work?s position, we shortly referred to philosophical moral literature .We gave the translation of commentary in a seperate section, it consisted of four articles named basic principles and intentions, protection and acquirement of ethic, home economics and administration of government.We have explained the catagaorization of sciences, the position of the moral in this catagorization and its identification. We studied to compare author?s work and Tusi?s work in which he systematically discussed the subjects such as science of morality, home economics and administration of government. We did this with general lines and when there was a need, we also gave place to opinions of other moralists. When doing this we tried to present the author?s contributions. We worked on İsmail Müfit?s opinions about subjects which are discussed in moral philosophy such as if moral changes or not and there are how many basics virtues. We tried to explain the conditions needed for protection of morality and the ways of treatment of moral ilnesses.We strived to introduce the importence of family, its aims and a family form which was consist of property, father-mother, children, servants. We shortly touched upon the condition of property, partner?s responsibilities against each other, the necessity to servants and to the education of children.Especially, we laid stress upon the negligance of daughter?s education.We tried to refer to the need of cooperation and helping each other about the administration of government, the need to the system of government, the responsibilities of public and the ruler?s attitude to the equal class.
