Abstract (EN)

İsmail Nihat Erim (1912-1980) struggled on the side of İnönü to establish a multiparty system in Turkey by entering politics in 1945 from the RPP. Nihat Erim, who has varios talents and knowledge, became a professor of public law at the age of 29. Served as the Minister of Public Works in 1948 and as Deputy Prime Minister in 1949. Nihat Erim, who could not be elected as a member of parliament after the 1950 elections, was going to start to run Ulus newspaper that was the RPP's publication organ, and was going to critically criticize the DP with the articles he wrote in Ulus newspaper until 1953. After the closure of Ulus Newspaper, he published Yeni Ulus and Halkçı Newspapers respectively until the middle of 1955. After the 1954 elections, Erim who defended the cooperation between the parties with a conciliatory personality, he held active positions in the Cyprus Issue with the task assigned to him by the Democratic Party between 1956-1960. In 1961, he was elected as a member of the CHP again in Kocaeli and returned to parliament. Erim was angry with İnönü between 1955-1964 but this resentment ended when he stood on the side of İnönü in Cyprus Issue. Nihat Erim fulfilled active tasks Cyprus Issue between 1964-1965. Erim, who was in the RPP until the end of the 12 March 1971 Memorandum, was resigned from the RPP after the 12 March Memorandum was made and became independent prime minister. After serving as the Prime Minister for about 13 months, served as the Republican Senator of the Presidential Quota Group until 1977. Erim, who retired from politics after 1977, started to be threatened by leftist organizations due to the harsh practices in the March 12 period. On 19th July 1980 was killed by the Dev-Sol terrorist organization.
