İsmet Özel, life, poem and poetics

İsmet Özel was born in September 19th, 1944. He studied at the Faculty of Political Sciences for some time. Then, he decided to discontinue his academic career and enlisted in the army. In 1977 he graduated from Hacettepe University, Department of French Language and Literature. Most of his newspaper articles he had written out dating from 1977 were collected into a book. From 1980, the year he retired, to 1998, he worked as a French Language instructor in Istanbul State Conservatory and State Conservatory of Mimar Sinan University. As a writer and poet he received lots of awards. He has been expressing his views on art, politics and social issues by means of different mass media channels and conferences. he also lectured on poetry at Bilgi University for some time. "Existantialism" movement which was very effective in Europe and Turkey in the 1960s, had also important effects on İsmet Ozel's poems. İsmet Özel's poems are generally of free verse. Yet, he is the one who attaches great importance to harmony and music in poetry. The language in his medium-length poems is extremely easy. They contain rich visual associations and the reader is easily attracted by an enthusiastic lyrical order. During the years he entered into poetry İsmet Özel had a socialistic point of view and was an important member of socialistic cultural environment. But beginning from 1970s, as he stated in his biography he falls for `Islamic worldview`. In 2007, he founded the association of `İstiklal Marşı`, The Turkish National Anthem and took on its administration. This study consists of "Abstract", "Introduction" , "İsmet Özel's Life – Art Life – His Works", "İsmet Özel's Poetry", "İsmet Özel's Poetics", "Conclusion", "References" and "Appendix" sections.In the first section of this book, İsmet Özel`life and his Works, in the second section the form and contents of his poem and in the third section his poetry perceptive have been discussed and assessed under different sub-titles.
