Abstract (EN)
Identity issues have begun to display an unprecedentedly sophisticated structure. Universal values such as human rights, equality, justice and freedom are causing an identity related awakening. It is hence understood that the response capability of states facing certain demands arising out of this awakening is closely related to whether democracy is internalized within those states. Therefore, the importance of citizenship functioning as a mechanism between state and her peoples becomes clearer. In this context, this thesis which examines the identity conflicts occurring in Israel has been structured on the basis of citizenship. That a stratified and hierarchical social structure has appeared due to the anti-democratic practices of the State of Israel is the main argument of this thesis. As a matter of fact, considering political, legal, ecclesiastical, economic, cultural and social parameters, it is seen that a three dimensional conflict profile has existed in the society: 1) Ashkenazi- Mizrachi division, 2) Secular- Charedi dissociation, 3) Arab- Jewish conflict. At the end of this study, the argument that Israel has an ethnic nature, which manifests itself in her discriminative policies that give one group of citizens more advantages, becomes established. Key Words: 1) The State of Israel 2) Citizenship 3) Ashkenazi- Mizrachi Division 4) Secular- Charedi Dissociation 5) Arab- Jewish Conflict
