Özet (EN)

Crime has always existed since the existence of human beings and has evolved in terms of its species and has come as a problem that maintains its importance until today and has social and material cost. Although it is difficult to define crime, it appears as a choice based on cost-benefit analysis in economics. Unemployment, with its general definition, is an economic and social phenomenon that occurs as a result of the inability of people who live by their labor to find a job and is one of the most important problems in many societies today. Migration, on the other hand, is expressed as the movement of individuals or communities within a country or beyond the borders of the country, and it can be caused by civil war, armed conflicts, natural disasters, political, social or economic etc. due to reasons. This situation, which has continued to increase in recent years, has deeply affected our country due to its geographical location, has brought many political and social problems with it and has become a subject of much debate. In this context, our thesis consists of five chapters in terms of purpose and scope. In the second part, economic models of crime, the relationship between crime and economy and a summary of the literature are presented, and these concepts, models, studies in this field and their results are expressed. In the third part of our thesis, Hausman test, F test and Harris-Tzavalis test, one of the unit root tests, were applied to examine the relationship between unemployment types and crime, and fixed effects and random effects model were used. In the fourth part of our thesis, the effect of Syrian refugees on crime in Turkey is examined using the difference in differences (DID) method. Finally, there is the conclusion part, and in this section, the findings within the scope of the study are summarized, and as a result, it has been seen that the effect of unemployment and asylum seeker migration on crime rates generally overlaps with the literature.
