Interior design principles of post-disaster temporary housing in İstanbul

Due to chaotic urbanization accompanying a dense population and intense work pace, earthquakes pose a serious threat to Istanbul. In the event of a possible earthquake, it is anticipated that the central districts of Istanbul will be significantly affected, leading to housing problems. This thesis examines the relationship between users and temporary housing to be used in the event of a possible earthquake in Istanbul, along with interior space standards. Initially, examples of post-disaster temporary housing in Istanbul and various locations worldwide were examined and analyzed. A survey involving 173 residents of Istanbul was conducted to provide support from a user perspective. To better analyze Istanbul's relationship with earthquakes and housing problems, interviews were conducted face-to-face with the disaster-related authorities of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Urban Transformation Directorate and the district municipalities of Beyoğlu, Eyüp, Fatih, and Kadıköy. An online interview was also conducted with Sevince Bayrak, co-founder of SO? Architecture, which developed the Hope on Water project among the examples studied in this research. As a solution to the identified problems, an interior design guide for post-disaster temporary housing in Istanbul has been created as a result of this thesis.
