Abstract (EN)
Due to its geopolitical position, Turkey has had an important role in the migration flows that have taken place after the 19. century. The globalization of the migration movements in the globalized world has made it compulsory to look at the concept of migration from a new dimension. The riots that started with the influence of the Arab Spring in Syria prepared the path to civil war. The war has led way to a great wave of migration affecting the whole world. Turkey, from 2011 onwards has played a key role in the migration from Syria. The border between Turkey and Syria has facilitated waves of immigration to Turkey. Today, there are 3.613.389 registered Syrian refugees in Turkey. Istanbul host the highest number of Syrians who are under temporary protection. Today the 546.238 immigrants that currently reside in Istanbul is concentrated in certain parts of the city. This intensification results in a higher impact on these regions compared to other districts. This distribution also has a decisive role in the integration of the Syrians in the city with the immigration and the integration of the city into this new mass and international migration. Istanbul is experiencing a new immigration experience. The Syrian migration has introduced a new set of problems that will allow a re-discussion of the concept of migration. In this context, the main purpose of this study is to examine the distribution of Syrian migration in Istanbul and its effect on urban changes. Keywords: Migration, Syrians, International Migration, Temporary Protection, Istanbul, Urbanization.
