Abstract (EN)
Considering its consequences, it is safe to say that that the Battle of Sedan was the most important battle during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71. First, it changed the power of balance in Europe. While German states led by Prussia were unified and became a German Empire, France was transformed into the Third Republic. Ottoman press, especially those newspapers in Istanbul, was quite interested in the Battle of Sedan and its consequences. Based on both Ottoman archival documents and newspapers articles of that time, this thesis aims to evaluate and analyse how Istanbul newspapers viewed the Battle of Sedan and reacted to it.
