Abstract (EN)
This study evaluates the applicability of Continuous Climb Operation, which are considered among the sustainable solutions aimed at reducing fuel costs, environmental impact, and air traffic controller workload in response to increasing aviation activity and global economic constraints. Continuous Climb Operation enable aircraft to climb continuously and efficiently from takeoff to cruising altitude, thereby reducing both fuel consumption and carbon emissions. However, the effective implementation of Continuous Climb Operation in complex and high density airspace structures such as the Istanbul Airport Terminal Maneuvering Area depends on various factors, including Standard Instrument Departure design, runway assignment strategies, and air traffic controller intervention processes. The study's real-time radar simulation analyses reveal that traffic congestion particularly at conflict points leads to an increase in level off instructions, which negatively affects the continuity of Continuous Climb Operation. As a result, in order to effectively implement Continuous Climb Operations, it is recommended to revise the design of Standard Instrument Departure Procedures and to adopt intelligent runway assignment strategies.
