The effect of the total quality management applications on commitment of the managers and teachers in private primary and high schools

The aim of this research is to understand the effect of the Total Quality Management applications on commitment of the managers and teachers in private primary and high schools. Moreover, it is aimed to find out if the demographic qualities of the managers and teachers result in different evaluations of Total Quality Management and Organizational Commitment level. By this research, we tried to overcome the problems created by school management and help to improve organizational commitment level of managers and teacher so that Turkish educational system can be better off. As a descriptive one, this research is done by comparing scores of data gathered from private primary and high schools? teachers and managers via a three part questionnaire about TQM and Organizational Commitment. The sample of the research randomly selected from private primary and high schools in Istanbul City district and consist of 106 questionnaire conducted to managers and teachers in 38 schools. For statistical analyses; parametric independent group t test, one way ANOVA, to find sources of the differences among groups post-hoc LSD test and non-parametric Kruskal Wallis-H test, Mann Whitney-U test and for searching relationship between variables Pearson Product Moment Correlation (r) techniques are used. The ? level used is .05 It is found that there is a positive and strong relationship between TQM applications and organizational commitment of managers and teachers. Applied management models in private primary and high schools have some serious problems to win commitment of the teachers. One of the most serious problem is due to insisting on classical (vertical type of hierarchy) management style used by some schools which prevents commitment of the teachers to the organization.
