Occupational interests of senior students of İstanbul Ümraniye Mevlana High School

The objective of this study is to put forward the factors that common high school students base on in choosing a profession and the relationship between their interests and their choice in an analytic perspective. The field the study is the senior students in the high schools in Ümraniye in the Anatolian side of Istanbul. On the senior students of Mevlana High School chosen with the Objective Sampled Method, the relationship between the interests of the teenagers and their choice was examined. The survey technique was employed in the study. The data relating the answers given to the questions were processed in SPSS Statistics Program. One sided Variance Analysis (ANOVA) and Double Matched Sample T Test analyses were carried out and following results were attained. The Analysis Results have shown that the interests of students have directed them in their choice. Generally, students don?t have guidance in their choice and they don?t participate in the scientific tests concerning detecting their professional talents and they are not supported by their families and the others in terms of their choice. The factors that influence their choice are, relating the high amount of unemployed people in our country, the work assurance, social assurance conditions, an easily obtainable job and a good salary. However, these factors preferred by students may not come true in the real sector. Students must consider their interests and talents in choosing a profession besides with asking the authorities for help. Students may see those who work in the field that they are going to choose and decide better. It should be the student who will decide what to choose at the end.
