Abstract (EN)
Alongside Istanbul has an important place in the fields of culture and art as the capital city of the Ottoman State for centuries, it also has a great importance in terms of Islamic arts. It is one of the leading cities where are architectural artworks such as mosques, small mosques, fountains, tombstones. Calligraphy artworks were carefully carved on religious buildings. These artworks show development of the beautiful script art and change of different script styles over time considering the importance of them. Therefore, while it is determined the research topic titled "Calligraphy Artworks and Calligraphers at the Historical Mosques in Kadıköy, Istanbul", calligraphers, script styles and historical development of the script were predicated. Without making century discrimination, total 75 artworks were found with Çehâr Yâr-ı Güzîn, epigraph, sheet, surface and hand-drawn applications in the region of Kadıköy. In order to evaluate in terms of calligraphy art, total 16 mosques such as Kethüda Mosque, İbrahim Ağa Mosque, Osman Ağa Mosque, Cafer Ağa Mosque, Sultan III. Mustafa İskele Mosque, Sahrayı Cedid Mosque, Zühtü Paşa Mosque, Galip Pasha Mosque, Tütüncü Mehmet Efendi Mosque, Mustafa Zihni (Station) Mosque, Suadiye Mosque, Bostana Kuloğlu Mosque, Rasim Pasha Mosque, Moda Mosque, Söğütlü Çeşme Mosque, İhsaniye Mosque were determined. There were no calligraphers' signatures on some of the artworks determined such as sheet, surface, hand-drawn and epigraph. This issue also remains in suspense when the calligrapher of the script is not specified in the resources. In case an artwork's calligrapher was known, if it could be determined the calligrapher had added important artworks to the art of script; it was possible to provide access to important information and documents in terms of the art of script, and perhaps a forgotten artwork for years could be brought back to the history of art. Upon a result of the examinations, it can be seen that the artwork performed by the calligrapher whose signature can be read but no knowledge about his life. After the restoration of some of the artworks determined, it can be seen that they become away from the original state and have no sense of aesthetics arising from the restoration work is given to people who are unqualified. Achieving of the research results, accessing to the important information and documents will bring light on the correct evaluation of these artworks in the future as well as today.
