Perceptions and feelings of people receiving elderly care services from public institutions in Istanbul

The aim of this study is to obtain information about the perceptions and feelings of people who receive elderly care services from the public institutions in Istanbul. The study is a qualitative research that determines the situation. Research was carried out by using observation and semi-structured questionnaire with people who accepted to be voluntary participants living in Istanbul from the list of names determined by the institutions among the elderly people over 65. It was confirmed by the institutions they reside in that they are mentally healthy. This study was carried out in 3 different districts of Istanbul, in 3 different institutions. After obtaining official permissions from the institutions, the work was initiated with the permission of the participants. Interview was carried out in places permitted by the institution in the presence of other people or in their own rooms at varying times. The findings of the study were obtained from the answers to the questions in the questionnaire. It has been observed that the perceptions and feelings of the elderly about the elderly care service are not the same but are similar. When the different variables such as gender and institutions they reside in were analyzed, it was concluded that it was participants' expectation that affected their perceptions and feelings.
