Abstract (EN)
Due to the unplanned and rapid development of the contemporary cities, noise pollutioncauses several indoor and outdoor problems. The most effective way to fight these noiseproblems is to realize longterm strategic plans related to noise issues in macro scale in orderto provide acoustical comfort of the society. Istanbul with a population over 10 million, is acity that faces several problems which one is noise.Historical Peninsula, which is the most important historical, cultural and touristical center andone of the busiest trade and commerce center of Istanbul, is seriously affected from noise. Inthis area, effective and organized urban noise control actions have not been done yet.During this thesis works, first of all urban space of the Historical Peninsula has been assessedin detail. Next, working areas have been selected and noise level measurements to define theenvironmental noise of the selected areas have been realized. Thereby, noise mapping fordifferent time zone have been done and action plan to fight noise pollution have beenproposed for problemeatic areas.Keywords: Istanbul, Historical Peninsula, noise pollution, noise control, noise levelmeasurement, noise map.
