The place of the individual in İstanbul's future scenario: An analysis with examples from literature and cinema

Understanding the foundations of future urban life is only possible by being aware of the needs of the built and social environment in which we live today. In this context, dystopias, which are called utopias and anti-utopias produced for the urban life of the future, constitute a prediction of the future. Although these formations are considered as unrealistic or unrealizable future phenomena, they constitute the reflections of the period in which they were created, their shortcomings, the needs of the period and the whole ideology of what the future life can evolve into. Since the scenarios of the past can become snippets of today's reality, they cannot be considered completely unrealistic. The facts of the current period form the basis of future scenarios. On the other hand, the potential for the realization of future scenarios that bear traces of the concept of utopia, which is referred to as an unattainable and ideal life, makes them not only utopia or anti-utopia. The potential they harbor also contains a heterotopic aspect, as they are rooted in the period in which they are rooted and form predictions for the future. The research covers the effects of the characteristic features of the individual lifestyle, which is an abstract concept, on physical space. It covers the effect of the abstract on the concrete, such as the physical living spaces of societies that adopt the concept of communal living changing accordingly (the relationship between the need for protest and city squares). What is the reason for the existence of the city, and even the place of the individual, who is the reason for the existence of the society, in the future urban ecosystem? What is the relationship between the individual and the space, how is it shaped? Does the relationship of the individual with the space change between seeing a physical space (cinema examples) and reading it from literary works that we shape in our minds? How are individual-focused spaces defined in future scenarios that include an individual-space relationship? The study is divided into stages in order to ensure that individual life is evaluated in a way that can be more dominant in urban life. It is possible to handle the research in two parts, and these parts are divided into sections within themselves. The first stage includes the examination of works in which the concept of community is prioritized and their evaluation supported by literature. These studies include films and literary works. The first stage also contains clues about what the identity characteristics necessary for individual life may be. The second stage of the research is to evaluate a concept of life where the individual can have his/her own space in the city but also connect with the community when needed. The multiple target structure of the research, the examination of productions in different disciplinary fields and their use together in the study, includes two different methods for general conclusions. It can be described as a mixed research in terms of both starting from details for general conclusions and using inductive and deductive methods in the research result.
