İstanbul'un mirasını sürdürmek: İBB Miras'ın kültürel mirasın korunmasındaki dönüştürücü rolü

The research examines Istanbul's historical preservation while studying the transformative aspects of IBB Miras' sustainable approaches to conservation work. It begins with a worldwide assessment through the examination of governmental and non-governmental heritage organizations in four renowned heritage countries: Italy, Spain, Germany, and France. The research moves to Turkey to analyze how the General Directorate of Foundations (Vakıflar Genel Müdürlüğü) and non-governmental bodies implement their heritage conservation efforts. The principal analysis focuses on IBB Miras, but the thesis also examines specialized units under the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality that were established in 2019. IBB Miras stands apart from institutions centered on major landmark monuments because it approaches smaller historical buildings that have been discarded by society. The institution revitalizes unattended sites through its considerate restoration and adaptive reuse projects. The research analyzes Istanbul's historic site conservation process by studying IBB Miras, which serves as a key force in developing sustainable preservation methods. The study embarks from a worldwide standpoint to study governmental and non-governmental heritage commitments through analyses of Italy, Spain and Germany, and France. The research investigates five noteworthy restoration projects carried out by IBB Miras, which include Botter Apartment (Casa Botter), Beyoğlu Cinema, Müze Gazhane, and Bulgur Palas. The evaluation of each case includes its historical background alongside observations of the condition before work began and details about architectural decisions made during restoration, along with metrics of cultural value contributed to its new purpose.
