Abstract (EN)

In this study it is aimed to investigate the effective ways for minimizing the amount of energyused for heating and cooling in buildings caused by transparent surfaces of building envelope, whereheat loses mostly occurs. From extinction of fossil fuels, increasing of greenhouse gases and reducingthe plundering of nature points of view, the usage of glass material in windows of building facadediscussed in terms of reducing heating and cooling energy consumption. The study is presented with a computer program prepared in MATLAB, which calculates andgives the results of hourly total heating and cooling energy for the considered characteristic days ofeach month 1st, 11th and 21st days (36 days for a year).Last ten-year period meteorological data of Elazığ was used in calculations of this study. Theheating and cooling energy requirements of different building examples are evaluated. Results areshown with tables and figures and the optimum facades determined from different alternativesKeywords: Energy conservation, Glass, Heating and cooling energy.
